About The Descendants Project
<p>The Descendants Project is a 501c3 nonprofit organization formed by sisters Dr. Joy Banner and Jo Banner to champion the voice of the Black descendant community while dismantling legacy plantation systems that threaten their health and happiness. The Descendants Project now stewards Woodland Plantation (1811 Kid Ory House), a pivotal site of the 1811 German Coast Slave Revolt and the birthplace of Jazz Legend “Kid” Ory.</p><p><br></p><p>The headquarters is in the historic Freetown of Wallace, Louisiana. </p>
